For Today

Style: Metalcore

Description: For Today is a band that has dedicated their whole songs to worship Christ.  This is a band thinks of their songs like  a cake with the Christian message being the cake and their hard music as the frosting. For Today has quickly gained fame among Christian and secular crowds.  Lyrically their music talks about perseverance, worshiping and praising God, and struggles through the eyes of a Christian. Their music has a ton of variety.  They are known for their sweep pickings and fast rhythmic breakdowns. Once you listen to them you won't be able to stop listening to them.

Oh, Sleeper

Style-Metalcore

From L to R-Matt Davis, Shane Blay, Micah Kinard , Lucas Starr, James Erwin
Description: "I'll cut of your horns" with this line Oh, Sleeper's Son of the Morning CD ends.  This last line describes in one sentence what the whole albums point was.  And that is that God will triumph over Satan. Oh, Sleeper was criticized when their first album came out. People started to say that Oh, Sleeper wanted to encourage the youth to believe that they can be God.  But on an interview with lead vocalist Micah he stated that the concept of the albums was that when you connect with God you and God become one. He also stated that the concept of Son of the Morning is that God will defeat Satan. Son of the Morning starts of with "Son of the Morning" where Satan challenges God. God's response to Satan is "If you could see like Me, you's see you haven't won anything, if you could see like Me you'd see it's by my Grace you're breathing." On "The Finisher", the album's last song, God responds by saying that he'll (Satan) bow to his knees of He'll rip off his knees, and that he will cut of Satan's horns.  The album's cover shows what Micah calls a "broken pentagram" which represents God defeating Satan.

A Plea for Purging

Style: Metal, Hardcore

Description: The Nashville metal boys have done it again. Their album The Marriage of  Heaven and Hell does not disappoint. Andy's vocals and better than ever, and Blake and Aaron's breakdowns are some of the heaviest I've heard for a hardcore band. Aaron takes it up a notch with his drums and double bass drum. All of APFP's lyrics have had positive Christian meaning. This didn't change in this album. A Plea for Purging is band that has a good sense of humor as shown in their music videos. APFP is that you have to listen to.

Underoath

Style: Metalcore, Post-hardcore

Description: Underoath is one the most popular Christian metal bands. Underoath has been a favorite among many Christians and non-Christians for their poetic lyrics and trashy sound. Many people have been complaining that Underoath isn't as good as when they first started out.  Although Underoath doesn't have any original members they still sound great. And even though Aaron Gillespie left the band I think that ex-Norma-Jean Daniel Davidson will do a great job. I can't wait to hear their new CD entitled Ø (Disambiguation) which will be released November 9, 2010.

Band Members
Spencer Chamberlain: vocals
Daniel Davison: drums
Timothy McTague: guitar

Burden of a Day

Style: Hardcore, Post-hardcore, Screamo

Description: Like other bands with lineup change, Burden of a Day has mixed reviews. Some like Kendall Knepps vocals better than Kyle's. I think Burden of  a Day still sound as great as when they first got their first album out. There music is very expressive and has great melody, but BOAD isn't afraid to add a couple of intense breakdowns in their songs. BOAD has had quite a success their latest album OneOneThousand reached #21 on Billboard's Heatseekers and #25 on Billboard's Christian Albums. On February 17, 2010 Burden of a Day posted on their myspace that they were playing their last two shows. They also posted that "A NEW band is coming, one that we know no one will expect, no one can avoid, and wont disappoint." So for now check them out!
